Hunter-Jumper Show in Burbank, CA., last week-end

Painted Face Hunter-Jumper RiderHunter-Jumper

A 19 hand AndallusianWCalifornia Care were at the HJ Show in Burbank this weekend.  This is the place where they held the Equine Events for the Olympics when they were in Los Angeles.
One of the girls had painted her face like we do at the Halloween Barrel Bashes.  I am sure her Mother was upset with her as these are society folks.  But she was a honey.  My Photo is not very good.  Also see the $1200.00 puppie she just bought!  Wow!
Also, here is a photo of a super Andulusian and he stands 19 hands and goes to stud this year. The Andalusian is one of the oldest breeds of horses in the world today. It is also known as the Purebred Spanish Horse or PRE (Pura Raza Española).  He has a super nice owner and trainer.
The next is a photo of a cali car.  These are legal street machines in California but the HJ people use them like we would have a golf cart.  Would you like to be cruising down I-405 at 80 mph in this thing?  I think not.
Here is one of the Youth class jumpers.  They have classes starting with 4 year olds riding some of the most beautiful ponys I have ever seen all the way up to the professionals.  The only time you will see me on a horse jumping a fence is when the meanest barrel racer in the world is chasing us.  My huge wreck when I was 12 was with a Pinto Pony, a barb wire fence and 265 stitches later. Ouch!
More later.

Los Alamitos Quarterhorse Track

This is our second day at Los Alamotos where they run the quarter horses’ all year long.  It is a very short track in the oval but, of course, the quarters do not run an oval.  The stable and barn area is deplorable and needs a complete remake.  I doubt if that will ever happen unless they start having some family racing. (Thoroughbreds are viewing racing whereas quarters are betting racing).  They hope that when Hollywood in turned into commercial and housing that some of that money will come over here.  I doubt that also.

It is a sunny and clear day here in the LA Basin.  Just a tourist day.

More later plus a change to our schedule.

At the Hunter-Jumper Show

Well, it is Sunday and we have finished working the track at Pomona and are headed to the Hunter-Jumper show in
Burbank (close to the Disney Studios where I saw Bob Gould or Micky Mouse a moment ago).  I am sitting in the van while Ginny is at the Egyptian Deli getting us some Egyptian dinner plates.  I don’t think the fried sheep eye balls are going to be my favorite…The Hunter-Jumper show is a small one only about 250/300 entries but this is the elite riders.  Now that does not mean the riders are elite but that their familys must be as it cost a ton to ride here…I will have photos to post later from the show.  We are starting to wind down our California trip.  This week on Thursday we move to Del Mar (just to the North of San Diego) for a big Hunter-Jumper show and to visit a very large training facility..More later.

Another sunny Southern California day

Here we are at the Los Angeles Fairplex (which is in Pomona) working the trainers.  This track is used mostly by the big time trainers at Santa Anita for their second string horses.  Of course second string is still big money horses.  This is also the home of the Barrett Jackson Auction.  They have a great barn complex for those horses being sold world wide.  We are off to the Hunter-Jumper show in Burbank later this morning.  I will try to get some photos of that.  You talk about beautiful horses.  Wow.

Our new blog site

Ginny and the handsome Captain Jack are just starting out in the wonderful world of blogging.  We have a lot to learn before we have a super blog site and our friends and fans (fans?) are the ones that will help us with it.  We want your comments, your photos and just what you are doing, how life and the horses are treating you.  I will have this set up in a few weeks where we can get some national attention.  Be sure to post who, what and where.  Perhaps there is a sponsor out there for you. We will have pages for each of you that wish to have one with what is happening in your life.  Just let Capt Jack know and he will page you your own blog page.

I will post where we are and what is going on….you do the same.
